Sex, Love, and porn addictions are complex
Sex addiction is now recognized as a process addiction by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Process addictions are behaviors such as: shopping, gambling, food, and compulsive exercise. ASAM describe addiction as a, "primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations."
The years of training, beyond those required to be licensed, and the continuing eduction required the be a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) equips them to stay current with research and treatment methods that other therapists lack. While there are many therapists who do good work, the training received by CSATs enables them to address the complex issues of sex and porn addiction in a manner that others cannot.

We provide National support
Therapists at COUNSELING ALLIANCE LLC have received training through the Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes. As a result we are connected with national centers of treatment as well as having access to experts in the field as resources.
Treatment for sex and porn addiction may differ depending upon several factors. Traditional out-patient therapy accompanied by group therapy/support is often the first step. This may move up in levels of treatment depending upon the nature of the addictive behavior. Intensive Out Patient (IOP) is often the next step up in treatment. COUNSELING ALLIANCE LCC has working relationships with centers who IOP options and we commonly make referrals to those national organizations. In-patient treatment is the next step. Again, our therapists work closely with several facilities around the nation to find the best fit for those seeking In Patient treatment. One huge benifit for this is our abilty to provide a high level of aftercare in which we cooperate with, and build unpon the work you have done in your IOP or in-patient treatment program.
We provide a safe, welcoming enviorment.
Our approach to treatment is based on research and decades of experience, yet personalized to your specific needs. The approach is based on a program that has the 12-Steps as the foundation but goes far beyond a 12-Step support group. The International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) and Gentle Path Press have developed workbooks and material that guide clients through 30 tasks related to recovery, these tasks address the complexity of sex and porn addiction as well as marriage and family, trauma, and other significant issues in a way that few other programs are able to do.

Group treatment options
We provide several options for group counseling.
- Our ongoing therapy groups work with materials developed by Dr. Patrick Carnes and others that are effective ways for individuals to address multiple issues within their lives. Groups are safe, confidential, and a less expensive option when compared to individual therapy sessions.
Our JUMPSTART TO HEALING (TM) programs also offer short term (1, to 5 day options) for individuals or small groups that are great opportunities for individuals to make a big difference quickly in their recovery. Learn more here.
The discovery or disclosure of a partner having an affair, or struggling with addiction to sex or porn is deeply traumatic. The physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual symptoms compare very similar to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Our therapists have advanced training in how to help a partner navigate the healing journey. Individual and group treatment are both available. Discover more about our Partner Program here.
We understand how difficult this is. Call today to begin the healing process.
